Over half a century after first joining together as Blondie , the unassuming group named after a catcall has proven to be one of the most enduring names in new wave, rock ‘n’ roll, and popular American music writ large. Late ’70s and early ’80s hits like “Call Me,” “One Way or Another,” and “The Tide Is High” have never truly fallen out of pop culture’s rotation. Cuts like “Heart of Glass” and “Rapture” even found their way into modern virality thanks in part to contemporary covers (done by Miley Cyrus and The Boys , respectively). And yet, for most of the ’80s and ’90s, Blondie vanished. Call it the Blondie dark ages.

Okay, they didn’t really disappear. The individual members kept plenty busy with solo efforts and side projects, and they began to soft launch a reunion in 1990
