Wind gusts are still in the 98 km/h range at St. John’s International Airport after an intense low pressure system moved over the island late yesterday.
Winds and storm surge were the greatest factors from the storm which also brought rain and as much as 20 cm of snow to parts of the island.
Private weather stations recorded wind gusts of up to 170 km/h in Cape St. Mary’s and Trepassey, while winds as high as 162 were recorded by Environment Canada at Cape Race.
Meteorologists are now watching another storm system forecast to pass over the Burin and Avalon peninsulas tomorrow evening, bringing strong winds and even the possibility of wet snow to the region.
