RIDGELAND, S.C. (WSAV) — The Jasper County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) is accepting donations that will go toward people and families affected by Hurricane Melissa's landing in Jamaica.
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in southwest Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 185 mph, causing deaths, major infrastructure damage to the island and forcing over 300 Americans to evacuate the country.
Almost a week after the devastating storm, JCSO and other agencies have joined to collect donations in support of the people of Jamaica who have been affected by the hurricane.
Those interested in donating to this relief effort can do so by dropping items off at 12008 N Jacob Smart Blvd in Ridgeland or by contacting Sgt. Stephan Ashby at 843-305-0098 to arrange a pickup.
