An interstellar object has been caught gathering speed as it moves through our solar system away from the sun and closer to Earth. According to NASA, comet 3I/ATLAS is the third known object from outside our solar system "to be discovered passing through our celestial neighbourhood".

NASA has said its missions are working together to track and study the "rare, interstellar comet" as it passes through our solar system.

On October 29th, it reached its closest point to the sun, and now its speed has picked up to about 152,000mph. When the comet was first discovered, it was travelling at about 137,000 miles per hour.

The interstellar object formed in another star system and was somehow ejected into interstellar space - the space between the stars. For millions, or billions, of years it has
