New research has given greater insight into the ongoing algal bloom situation in South Australia.
While the paper is awaiting peer review, it has provided a few revelations about the make-up of the bloom, with a new predominant species — Karenia cristata — identified by scientists.

Who is behind the research?
The paper has been compiled by scientists from across the country — as well as New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Scientists tested water samples collected over much of the bloom's life-span from 39 spots along South Australia's coasts.
Professor Shauna Murray, from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), has been leading the research team since the bloom was first detected in March at Waitpinga Beach on the Fleurieu Peninsula alongside the S
