UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV) -- A strong storm is moving through northern New York this evening, bringing periods of rain and very strong winds! As the cold front sweeps through, colder air behind it will help pull those stronger winds down to the ground for several hours tonight. Many spots will see gusts over 50 mph, and places like the Mohawk Valley, southern Oneida County, Otsego County, and the northern Catskills could see gusts close to 60 mph. That’s why High Wind Warnings are in effect. Winds will gradually ease overnight, but they will still stay gusty into early Thursday morning.
As the colder air settles in, some lake-effect showers will develop. Near the lakes, this will mainly be rain, but higher elevations south of I-90 might see a brief mix or touch of wet snow early Thursday. N
