LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

A deadly UPS plane crash in Louisville ignited a long stretch of flames near the airport on Tuesday.

The fire and smoke could be seen for miles, and prompted a shelter-in-place as far north as Indiana.

Officials said the fires took about six hours to get under control and there are just a few hotspots left.

However, Okolona Fire, which has jurisdiction where the crash happened, said it could take "a week or longer" to fully knock them all out.

Okolona Fire Chief Mark Little said the debris field from the crash stretches from Fern Valley Road to just beyond Melton Ave. That's about a mile, although the NTSB said the field was more like half a mile.
