Jeffrey Chesser, an independent-living youth advocate for Lucas County Children Services, had to fill in for several of his fellow employees and attend a state conference in Columbus last month.
It was his day off, but someone had to represent Lucas County at the Public Children Services Association of Ohio event.
“My wife, kids, and my co-workers all played me,” Mr. Chesser said. “I am still surprised that everyone was able to keep a secret for so long.”
Mr. Chesser was named the child protection support advocate of the year by the organization. He received the award Oct. 3 at the organization’s annual conference.
His wife, Nicole, daughter Talynn, 9, and his son Colton, 13, knew about the recognition and surprised him at the conference.
