U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. has backed President Donald Trump in threatening to invade Nigeria over Islamist militant groups’ “killing of Christians.”

In a post Saturday to Truth Social, Trump said he’s instructing the Pentagon “to prepare for possible action” and threatened an immediate cutoff in aid to Nigeria , an OPEC member that’s Africa’s most populous country.

Trump said on Friday he was designating Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern because of worries about the safety of Christians in the country, with some commentators going as far as to call it a genocide.

When asked Wednesday if he would support U.S. troops going into Nigeria on Fox News’ “America Reports, ” Tuberville, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, responded, “You bet I would.”
