Two years after a hoax explosive device led to the evacuation of the Larimer County Justice Center, a Loveland man has been accused of placing it there to delay a court hearing.

Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the justice center, 201 Laporte Ave. in Fort Collins, on a report of a suspicious device outside on July 31, 2023. Law enforcement evacuated the courthouse building and surrounding businesses, and court proceedings were canceled for the day.

People inside other surrounding businesses were told to shelter in place until members of the Northern Colorado Bomb Squad removed the device. Experts determined that someone had designed it to look like an explosive, using wires and road flares.
