ABILENE, Texas — Jail records revealed new details about an October shooting involving Abilene police and an East Texas man .
Officials said the incident happened on Oct. 13 near South 1st and Butternut streets around 6:30 p.m., when officers were called to conduct a welfare check on a man who appeared to be disoriented.
When officers arrived, they found the man, later identified as 34-year-old Christopher Luckey of Lufkin, Texas, and tried to deescalate the situation. However, officials said Luckey then refused and started walking into the roadway, creating a hazard for himself and drivers in the area.
When officers tried to handcuff Luckey, a struggle forced him and an officer to fall into the street. A second officer then tried using a Taser, but officials said it was ineffective.
