ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - On Nov. 5, Nicholas England, Michael Watkins and Tyler Medica made ASH Trojan history, becoming the first student-athletes to sign college fishing scholarships.
“It’s surreal,” England said. “We’ve always looked at people, but we’ve never had anybody tangible that we could look up to and talk to. It feels great just to know that I can help somebody that’s younger than me.”
England signed with the LSU-Shreveport Pilots, while Medica and Watkins signed with the Northwestern State Demons. Both LSUS and NSU are among the Top 25 fishing schools in the nation.
“Just doing something I love in college, and it makes me want to go to college,” Watkins said. “It makes me want to do good in college.”
Watkins, Medica and England are among the pioneers of ASH’s Fishing Prog
