SEATTLE — Seattle Mariners second baseman Jorge Polanco has declined his player option to stay for one more year at $6 million. Polanco becomes a free agent.
The 32-year-old player hit .265 with 26 home runs and 78 runs batted in. It was his best season since 2022. It was so good that he's one of three finalists for the American League Silver Slugger award for second basmen. He was also healthy enough to play in 138 games, the most since his 2021 season.
Polanco primarily played as Seattle's designated hitter, doing so in 89 games. Polanco also played 35 games at second base, five games at third, and 13 more as a pinch hitter.
Seattle acquired Polanco before the 2024 season, but injuries derailed his first year with the M's. Seattle declined his option for 2025 at $12 million. But after
