NEWTOWN SQUARE — You could understand if momentarily there was some shock Wednesday among Episcopal Academy’s girls soccer team when the ball rippled the net behind goalie Taylor Moore.

Conceding goals isn’t something EA has done much this season.

In 20 games entering Wednesday’s Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association semifinal, it had allowed precisely eight. From 11 games against Inter-Ac opposition, that number was a paltry two, one to Wednesday’s opponent Springside Chestnut Hill, one to Germantown Academy, both overcome for EA wins.

So seeing Cali Smith head home in the 59th minute might’ve induced a little something … well, whatever the emotion was, it was unfamiliar. Though it wouldn’t keep Episcopal Academy bothered for long.
