MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – If you find a stray dog or cat and aren't sure how to locate its owner, the Madera County Animal Shelter now offers a 24-hour microchip scanner station.
This not only helps reunite lost pets with their owners more quickly but also alleviates strain on the shelter.
Madera County Animal Shelter Coordinator Ludwing Casillas says they frequently receive lost cats and dogs. This takes staff away from the currently sick or injured animals in their care.
So, they installed a 24-hour microchip scanner located outside of the shelter. "So all you have to do is come in, grab the microchip scanner. You do need to press and hold the [button]. Once you do that and you hear that beep, you can go ahead and start scanning the dog," Casillas explained.
