STERLING – The Sterling Black Bears scored 49 points in the opening quarter of the first round playoff football game against Herington on the way to a 63-6 victory.
Sterling’s senior running back Zane Farney rushed for 241 yards and four touchdowns in the win, and he had a punt return for a score. Senior Wyatt Newberry had two carries for 33 yards and a score and he had a kickoff return for a touchdown, while junior Jace Darnauer scored on a 24-yard run.
Sophomore quarterback Meyer Anderson threw one pass to senior Porter Anderson for a 17-yard scoring strike. The Black Bears totaled 528 all-purpose yards in the game.
The Sterling defense sacked the Railers 11 times in the game for a negative 92 yards. Sophomore Jacob Lewis led the defensive attack with 10 tackles and two sacks. Junior
