LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - On this day in 2002, Michigan elected its first-ever female governor.

Democrat Jennifer Granholm cracked the glass ceiling when Michiganders elected her to the state’s highest office.

She would eventually serve in President Joe Biden’s cabinet as Secretary of Energy.

Her election signaled a new chapter in Michigan politics.
