Australia captain Pat Cummins has resumed bowling multiple overs with a reduced run-up and aims to return for the second Ashes Test against England. The day-night match in Brisbane is scheduled to begin on December 4.

Cummins has been sidelined since July due to a lower-back issue and has already been ruled out of the series opener in Perth. Steve Smith will replace him as skipper for that match.

Scott Boland is expected to take Cummins’ place in the pace attack for the Perth Test, but Cummins is optimistic about being able to bowl with the pink ball at the Gabba the following week.

“We’re building our plan towards the second Test," Cummins told reporters in Sydney on Thursday. “It’s not until you get closer that you know your condition, but I’m recovering well and my body feels great.
