GADSDEN, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Gadsden City Council approved $15,000 for the local food bank Tuesday to help ensure families have food on their tables while SNAP benefits remain in limbo.
The discretionary funds are meant to get more food into the community, according to Gadsden Public Affairs Coordinator Michael Rodgers.
Rodgers said the city worked with the legal department to figure out the best way to help neighbors struggling right now. Because the Etowah Community Food Bank is the expert entity on filling this need, they decided to give the money directly to them.
On Facebook, the food bank posted that they’re ensuring food items are available at their partner agencies: Salvation Army, Etowah Baptist Mission Center and the Catholic Center of Concern.
