COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —

A close mayoral race leads to a landmark election in Council Bluffs.

Mayor-elect Jill Shudak edged out long-time Mayor Matt Walsh by just over 100 votes in the unofficial count.

"It's awesome. I'm very proud and very excited to take on this new role in the city," said Shudak.

Shudak will become the city of Council Bluffs' first elected female mayor, and she says she's ready to shoulder the responsibilities.

"In my current day, I manage $44 million on a daily basis and work through projects and talk to CEOs all around the world. so it's a shift. Definitely. It's going to be a priority shift," said Shudak.

Shudak says she's going to bring some changes to the position, including prioritization of citizen input.
