Yesterday, Santa Fe voted in a new mayor: Michael Garcia.

Housing and homelessness may have been bigger issues on the campaign trail for candidates, as reported by city hall reporter Carina Julig. But what are some of the statements the city councilor and now mayor-elect has made about city parks and the environment?

Wildfire and flooding

In a Q&A with the Canyon Neighborhood Association, Garcia wrote that due to climate change, parts of the city are seeing " increased risks from natural disasters such as wildfires and flooding" and promised to draft a evacuation and disaster response plan for the Canyon Road area.

"Our city has a responsibility to provide all residents especially those in high-risk areas with the information, training, and resources they need to stay safe," Garcia
