City water rates will rise by 6% next year.

A $94.5-million budget for the water utility in 2026 was presented to council on Tuesday. The 6% increase is in line with recent increases, Utility Services Manager Kevin Van Vliet told council on Tuesday.

Rates for the Glenmore Ellison water district, which was recently taken over by the city, will be presented to council in two weeks. Meanwhile, some rates at the Kelowna Landfill will be going up.

However, the garbage rate of $106 per tonne will stay the same for another year, which means the $12 fee most people pay to go to the landfill won’t change.

Tipping fees that will rise on Jan. 1 are:

• Wood waste from $25 to $30

• Mattresses from $15 to $18

• Asphalt shingles from $150 to $170

• Wholesale compost 50 cents to $1 per yard
