With the bald eagle population increasing here and across the country, the Audubon Society of Rhode Island plans to bring a bald eagle to the Ocean State to serve as an "ambassador" to help the public learn about the birds.
The Audubon Society is raising money to bring the juvenile bird from Indiana, where it's in the care of a wildlife rehabilitator. The 2-year-old bald eagle was injured as a fledgling "when a tornado ripped her nest from a tree in Indiana," the Audubon Society said in a fundraising appeal. "Despite expert care and time to heal, she remains unable to fly. She will be our biggest ambassador, weighing 15 pounds."
Audubon is "initially looking to raise $20,000 to support" the bald eagle, according to Hope Foley, a spokeswoman for the not-for-profit environmental organiza
