The glitz and buzz of Kuala Lumpur’s entertainment scene turned grim this week after a news broke that popular Malaysian rapper Namewee is in custody over the mysterious death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh. Once known for his provocative music videos and daring public stunts, Namewee, 42, now finds himself at the center of a police investigation.
The incident unfolded two weeks ago in a hotel room in the Malaysian capital. Hsieh, 31, who had traveled to Malaysia to discuss a commercial video project with Namewee, was found dead in her bathtub. Malaysian authorities initially categorized the death as sudden, but as the investigation progressed, the case took a dark turn. Police have now reclassified it as a murder case.
