Australian captain Pat Cummins is hopeful Cam Green will be fit to bowl in the first Ashes Test as he teased the allrounder could be selected as a specialist batter.

Green will roll arm over in Western Australian’s Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland, starting at the WACA Ground on November 11, less than two weeks out from the series opener at Optus Stadium.

It will be the first time the 26-year-old has bowled since sustaining a side strain at training that ruled him out of the one-day international series against India.

He played in WA’s previous Shield clash against South Australia, with knocks of 0 and 41 as a specialist bat.

Asked how important Green’s ability to bowl will be in the Ashes, Cummins said while it would be “another bonus”.
