NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - With Veterans Day less than a week away, Mississippi Gulf Coast veterans took a trip Wednesday (Nov. 5) to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

They traveled with Reimann Family Funeral Homes to honor those who served and sacrificed for the country.

“It’s a tribute to the veterans that paid the ultimate sacrifice,” said Vietnam veteran Lewis Haight.

Haight said the exhibits reminded him of his father, who fought in the Guadalcanal campaign during World War II.

“I remember going into the closet, moving the clothes to see my father’s uniform, and I said that that’s what I was going to be,” he said.

Haight went on to serve in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 as a senior noncommissioned officer. He said he feels fortunate to have returned home.
