Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and her broadcaster boyfriend strongly denied a report that she's planning to run for president.
The Georgia Republican has publicly criticized her party and its leadership over the past year, and NOTUS reported that four sources familiar with the matter say Greene has been working to reinvent herself with an eye on seeking the GOP nomination in 2028.
"One source says her conversations have centered around her belief she is 'real MAGA and that the others have strayed,' adding that she believes she has 'the national donor network to win the primary,'" NOTUS reported.
Greene promptly texted NOTUS after the report's publication to deny what she called "a baseless article," and she asked why the outlet had not attempted to contact an individual in her office instead of sending an inquiry to her communications director, which reporter Reese Gorman said he had done.
“Who is your source? Laura Loomer?" Greene said in the text, and she posted a screen shot of the message on her X account. "She claimed I was running for governor last week and announcing it in the view. Once again you publish baseless gossip. Very disappointing. Don’t text me again."
Greene sneered at the outlet's reliance on "sources," one of which was described as having spoken with her directly about the matter, and emphasized that she was focused on her legislative duties.
"Congress needs to go back in session because DC reporters are bored and desperate," she said. "And I would like to pass bills and appropriations for my current job."
Her boyfriend Brian Glenn, chief White House correspondent for the right-wing Real America's Voice, chimed in with a post mimicking President Donald Trump's social media style.
"MTG has NO plans to run for President in 2028," Glenn posted. "I AM YOUR SOURCE. Thank you for your attention to this matter. BG."
NOTUS stood by its reporting, saying its sources said Greene had spoken about a presidential run numerous times.
"While the conversations lack specifics and she hasn’t officially decided anything, she has brought up on multiple occasions that she is interested in launching a campaign," NOTUS reported. "Sources point to her recent media run on CNN, 'The View' and 'Real Time with Bill Maher' as evidence that she is trying to connect with a more national audience outside of the hardcore MAGA base."
