A cottage owner in a picturesque village is battling Solihull Council after being denied permission to extend his garden.

Rick Taylor initially submitted an application in February to the authority seeking a larger garden area following his purchase of land on a neighbouring field behind Rose Cottage in Lavender Hall Lane, Berkswell .

The applicant sought official approval from the authority to convert the land from agricultural use.

The application form described the area as "overspill grazing land not needed by neighbouring farmer" whilst noting there was a significant area of grazing land retained beyond.
