Death by Lightning is on Netflix and the historical miniseries is about the presidency of James A. Garfield (played by Michael Shannon), leading up to his shooting by Charles J. Guiteau (Matthew Macfadyen).
In July 1881 Guiteau, described as "a disappointed and delusional office seeker", shot Garfield at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington.
The shooting did not kill him instantly, but the infected wound led to his death on September 19.
Chester A. Arthur (Nick Offerman) was his successor, who served as vice president at the time Garfield was assassinated.
