CHINA SPRING, Texas (KWTX) - Innovation is at work at China Spring High School. 17 students in the Engineering Career and Technical Education Program have spent weeks constructing competition robots.
The students were divided up into three teams and from scratch they researched and meticulously built functioning robots to compete against other school districts.
As for their first-ever competition layout: the robots had to work independently for 30 seconds -- meaning no student control.
The final two minutes students were hands on and remote controlling the robots to pick up whiffle balls and shoot into baskets; kind of like basketball but for robots.
Both the students and Coach Brendan Smith are hopeful this is just the beginning of the unique program.
