Nancy Pelosi, the first woman elected Speaker of the House, said Thursday she will not seek another term in the House of Representatives.

The longtime California Democrat made the announcement in a video posted to social media . She will continue to represent San Francisco in Congress through her current term, which ends in 2027.

"With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative as we go forward," Pelosi said.

In her nearly 40 years in Congress, Pelosi is known for making history on and off the House floor. She broke the glass ceiling multiple times, serving in several house leadership roles, and becoming the first and only woman House Speaker, a position she held four times.
