SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk police shot and killed a man who fired shots at them Wednesday night.

According to officials, Suffolk police received a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) just after 8 p.m. for a stolen vehicle out of a neighboring jurisdiction. Police located the vehicle in the 900 block of Ashley Avenue.

As two officers approached the vehicle, the sole occupant of the vehicle fired shots. Officers returned fire and struck the occupant. Officers rendered aid until Suffolk Fire & Rescue arrived on scene to provide treatment.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a firearm was recovered from the scene.

No officers were injured. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation.
