Long-time Clinton law enforcement officer Adrian Mathews has become Clinton’s first black police chief, a move announced during the Wednesday night City Council meeting.
Mathews, who was Clinton’s assistant police chief under now retired chief Anthony Davis, was moved into the interim position when Davis stepped away from his post in October.
Last night, Mayor Lew Starling announced that Mathews had been selected as the permanent replacement for Davis.
“I am truly grateful for this opportunity, and I hope to make the city proud,” Mathews said after the announcement.
The new police chief will be formally inducted into the position soon, Starling said, though a date was not given.
