It would not be a stretch to say that most people who frequent the city core know Harry Burley, the rightfully titled Ambassador at Downtown Community Policing office.
A lifer born in Belleville, Harry attended Loyalist College in Law and Security back in the 1970s, then went on to some city ambulance work before joining the Belleville City Police as an auxiliary constable in 1988. In 2021, Chief Harder at the time made him a special constable until he retired in 2024.
“Ever since my childhood, we’ve always had policemen for friends and family. My great grandfather was one of the first Belleville policeman for many years. I was inspired. Most kids grow up wanting to be a fireman, but I was scared of heights,” he says laughing.
