Mizoram social welfare, women and child development minister Lalrinpuii has raised serious concern over a steep surge in gender-based violence across the state, calling for urgent and collective action to safeguard women’s rights and dignity.
Speaking at the launch of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Solve Project in Aizawl, the minister said the escalating trend “demands serious attention from both government and society.”
According to official data, the Women Helpline in Mizoram recorded 3,094 cases of violence against women in 2022–2023. By February 2025, that figure had soared to 12,750, marking a nearly fourfold increase in less than two years.
