CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) -- In order to prepare for heightened demand amidst the government shutdown, more than $11 million has been released to food banks within the Mountain State.
According to a press release, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that $2.5 million will be released, bringing the total amount of funds to approximately $11.1 million. He has set a maximum of $14.1 million in funding as residents of West Virginia go without benefits from SNAP. Governor Morrisey also stated that if the shutdown does not end soon, he will call in the legislature for additional assistance, the release stated.
