A former high school teacher has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison, several months after being caught in a sting operation while admittedly attempting to meet up with a minor for sex.

Derek Lange, 35, a former teacher and coach at El Capitan High School in Colorado City, Arizona, was sentenced in Cedar City on Wednesday by 5th District Judge Matthew L. Bell

As previously reported , Lange, who resided in Hurricane, was arrested on the night of March 29 after he showed up at a prearranged meeting place in Cedar City, only to be met by police officers instead of the 13-year-old girl he’d believed he’d been conversing with online.

Following his arrest, Lange was initially charged with seven felony counts, which included attempted rape of a child, a first-degree felony; enticing
