PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) -- Laken's Law, passed in 2024, is being incorporated into a new curriculum that will hopefully be in West Virginia schools soon.

The law aims to educate people on fentanyl poisoning and substance use awareness.

Laken Morgan was just 24 years old when she passed away due to fentanyl poisoning, leaving behind a newborn daughter.

Her mother, Diane Barnett, chose to honor her daughter's memory by creating Laken's Law, in order to educate everyone about the dangers of fentanyl.

The law went into effect in August of 2024.

Now, Barnett has partnered with Community Connections to create a curriculum explaining Laken's Law and educating the students of West Virginia about fentanyl poisoning, how to identify a drug overdose, and refusal techniques for if they are ever offe
