GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — A group working to find the graves of veterans in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has identified three more veterans who are buried in the park.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has more than 150 cemeteries, and 63 of those are the final resting place for veterans. While many of the individuals buried in cemeteries in the park were there before the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was established in 1926, it wasn't until 2020 when Navy veteran and Veterans Heritage Site Foundation President Marilyn Childress asked a question that an effort began to identify all of the graves.
