The city of Mobile plans to transform almost 200 acres of waterfront property off of Dog River into public parks with nature trails and put-ins for canoes and kayaks.

A contract that could be approved by the Mobile City Council next week would pay Volkert, Inc. $900,000 to design and engineer Perch Creek Preserve, a handful of public waterfront access points and riverfront parks bisected by Dauphin Island Parkway just north of the Dog River Bridge.
