McCook Detainees Arrive

Governor Jim Pillen announced that as many as 60 ICE detainees are currently being housed at the Regional Detention Center in McCook, saying they started arriving Monday night.

After speaking with the McCook mayor, Pillen estimates between 50 to 60 detainees are in ICE custody at the detention center. He expects about 200 inmates there before Thanksgiving. Funding for the second phase was just approved to add 100 additional beds. Homeland Security said it will pay the state $2.5 million monthly under a two-year contract.
