SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The government shutdown has trickled down to Savannah’s most vulnerable, and Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, along with its partners with the city and county, are making sure people don’t go hungry on Friday.
Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia Executive Director Mary Jane Crouch said they started buying more food before November 1, before the government shutdown that affected people’s SNAP benefits, because they knew it could get to this moment.
Crouch said around 100 cars were lined up as early as 5 a.m. on Friday, wrapped around Memorial Stadium. Showing how many people are worried about feeding their family as the government shutdown continues for another day.
