It took a deep dive into City Council records from 2009 and a long executive session for the Jasper Economic Development Corporation board to decide to appoint a committee to study the proposed Sports Complex project.

Board member Pam McDonough told the board she researched the May 2009 city referendum in which Jasper voters approved action on sports facilities.

McDonough said the city did not keep a copy of the actual ballot, but she secured a copy of the City Council minutes on the matter.

The council minutes read as follows:

"Shall a portion of the existing Section 4A (Type A) sales and use tax within the City of Jasper be utilized for the cost of buildings, equipment, facilities, and improvements for use for professional and amateur (including children's) sports and athletic purpos
