NAU football was put in its biggest spotlight in over a decade last week. Then ranked No. 19, the Lumberjacks got to host one of the Big Sky Conference’s four nationally televised games slated for this season. Unless you stayed in late Halloween night to watch NAU and Idaho battle on ESPN2, you probably did not see it.

The Halloween showdown did not just haunt the Lumberjacks' playoff hopes with the Vandals’ 35-32 overtime win; it also left the Walkup Skydome barren. A lowly 5,112 people showed up to watch the game, the lowest turnout to an NAU football game since November 2019, not counting the spring 2021 season impacted by COVID.
