NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – A baby living at a YMCA in Newark died on Friday morning, officials said.
Staff were told the infant was unresponsive around 8 a.m. First responders were called, and the staff tried to resuscitate the baby, a YMCA official told PIX11 News. EMTs arrived around 8:15 a.m. and took over treatment, but the baby could not be saved.
The baby was about 5 months old, sources told PIX11.
“The entire YMCA of Newark and Vicinity community is devastated by this. The loss of a child is heartbreaking, and we are keeping this infant, as well as the family in our prayers,” Michael Bright, President/CEO of YMCA of Newark, said in a statement.
The baby’s cause of death was not immediately disclosed. The investigation is ongoing.
