Matthew Tudor is a Wartburg College senior and a student intern at Waverly Newspapers for the 2025-2026 academic year.

I joined the Iowa Army National Guard at the age of 17 years old. I came into the National Guard having such aspirations for my career as a public affairs mass communications specialist and longing to serve my country with all of me. I never thought I would be able to experience the things I have in just four years of service.

Since enlisting, I have qualified in two military occupations (motor transport operator and public affairs mass communications specialist). I have been to three different bases in the nation: Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; and Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.
