NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Jasper man had a medical emergency and died in the Angelina County jail after returning from the hospital.

Tony Jerome Irvine, 54, of Jasper, died in the Angelina County Jail Thursday after several days in the hospital.

According to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, Irvine asked for medical attention while in custody. Jail medical staff evaluated him, and he was taken to a local hospital for tests and treatment. He remained hospitalized and sedated for several days.

After regaining consciousness Friday, hospital staff removed a breathing tub and say Irvine became alert and upset with his treatment, demanding to be discharged and returned to the jail.
