The imprisonment of Hong Kong media tycoon and Niagara-on-the-Lake hotelier Jimmy Lai was a focal point of Thursday’s session of Canada’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.
The session, available online, included an exchange between Niagara Falls-Niagara-on-the-Lake MP Tony Baldinelli; Lai’s son, Sebastien, who is also leader of the Free Jimmy Lai campaign; and Brandon Silver, director of policy and projects of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights.
They all expressed hope Lai’s detention in Hong Kong will be addressed at next week’s G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Niagara and that there will be further calls to free Lai.
