Carol Rocamora’s I Take Your Hand in Mine, which opens Wednesday evening in the Baby Grand Theatre, is based on the letters between Chekhov, a doctor who wrote plays and short stories in his spare time, and his wife, Olga Knipper. Article content Article content

The couple lived apart for much of their six-year marriage. She was a working actress who called Moscow home, while he lived to the south in Yalta — along with his sister, who managed his affairs — because of his tuberculosis.

The play, directed by Dmitry Zhukovsky, stars Richard Sheridan Willis as Anton and Rena Polley as Olga.
