SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Goodfellow Air Force Base has disclosed to Concho Valley Homepage that it will not be participating in San Angelo's 22nd annual Veterans Day Parade in an official capacity. Here's why the military installation won't make an appearance at one of the town's most popular public events.

In a memo shared with Concho Valley Homepage, a representative of Goodfellow AFB stated that the base will not be able to "participate in the parade and Veteran’s Day events in an official capacity."

The base cited the ongoing federal government shutdown — which began on Oct. 1 and has grown to become the longest shutdown in United States history — as the reason for being unable to take part in Veterans Day activities.
